i have done this before , to be exact i have done this 9 times before and i am back , with another review of another Dresden book , and i am starting to feel as if i am hungry for more of these books . I’m Binge Eating these books and I’m still not sated
Harry Dresden’s life finally seems to be calming down — until a shadow from the past returns. Mab, monarch of the Sidhe Winter Court, calls in an old favor from Harry — one small favor that will trap him between a nightmarish foe and an equally deadly ally, and that will strain his skills — and loyalties — to their very limits.

What I Liked :
By this time the readers of my reviews will be ready to know that I’ll list the common things that i like about This book series which include the uniquely built system of magic and magical world , the countless morbid scenarios Harry gets himself trapped in and gets out of with some brilliant quick-thinking and using sheer uncontrolled power , the Countless well-laid out description of various characters in the series , The Fast paced action and exquisitely written fun dialogues.
You would be right of course , they are all there , but do they make me weary ? Hell No!
“Think of every fairy-tale villainess you’ve ever heard of. Think of the wicked witches, the evil queens, the mad enchantresses. Think of the alluring sirens, the hungry ogresses, the savage she-beasts. Think of them and remember that somewhere, sometime, they’ve all been real.
Mab gave them lessons.”
I honestly love Harry* as a character and yes while every book in the series has had all those above mention stuff the scenarios are always different and somehow the author has very intelligently incorporated events of the past books and set stage for big events related to those previously benign seeming events

This book is charming especially because this time the book focused heavily on it’s plot which was superb and this time it also succeeded in keeping readers entertained without the snarky , witty humor usually granted in this series . The multiple climaxes of the series were really well scripted and the involvement of Thomas , Molly , Michael and Murphy were in heavy quantities than in any book in the series yet. Of course there were new things as well as Harry acquired a new power which can kill him , an indeterminate ally/foe.
“Punctuality is for people with nothing better to do”
The last chapter in particular was absolutely beautiful with all the anticipation and emotions thrown in it felt like this last chapter showed Jim Butcher’s growth as a writer and per me it was his best work writing wise .The moments involving Harry and Michael’s interpersonal relationship were also very emotional and at one moment of the book one actually feels the fury against Harry’s friends on Harry’s behalf
Unfortunately this would be hard to make people understand without giving away any spoilers but there’s a particular running plot whose conclusion i was dead sure of and i was pleasantly baffled when thing did went towards that conclusion point but actually ended differently* AND I AM THE GUY WHO PREDICTED JHON SNOW’S PARENTAGE AFTER THE 3RD BOOK .
*for those who have read the book i am talking about Amorachius and Murphy, i was so sure of it
What I Didn’t like :
Very little , as mentioned above while i do appreciate how wonderful it was for Jim Butcher to focus more on plot and less on humor , I do miss the humor . It’s not like the humor is missing it’s just they have been toned down and many are too obvious or lame which is just bad.
“I’ve had a tense couple of days. And I’ve got to tell you, burning someone’s face off sounds like a great way to relax.”
The Fate of Nicodaemus felt kind of Underwhelming to what his status quo has been so far in the series
It was a wonderful book in the already brilliant series and looking over it i can’t believe how far this series has come from when compared to the first book . The plot was so well crafted in this book that i would have called this my favorite in the series but lack of humor makes it probably the 2nd best book of the series for me .
Basically if you Haven’t You Must !
[P.s to those who complained about my blogs being lengthy , trust me I tried to trim this down , I really did , and sadly i didn’t succeed guess I’ll be the guy who writes lengthy blogs ]
